I really like using metal leaf in my paintings. Metal leaf is a very thin sheet of foil and comes in gold, silver or copper colors. I first apply an adhesive and after it has dried I take a sheet and lay it on, gently rubbing with a soft brush as I go. It’s important to have no breezes while working with these feather light sheets, the stuff goes everywhere.
In bright light the metal almost disappears into the painting, but in dim light it transforms it into something new. Metal leaf has a high luster, catching and reflecting any light available.
