One of my favorite books is Shel Silverstein’s, Where the Sidewalk Ends (and of course A Light in the Attic). Any time I find the end of a sidewalk I’m reminded of that book and it brings a smile to my face.
This spot is at the very end of my trail and it’s about a 3 mile walk just to get there.
I started by sculpting the hills out of paper clay. I then painted the sky and blocked in some color for the background.
I’ll use my quality acrylics to paint the background and the cheap ones for any part that’s sculpted. I can’t get the vibrancy or saturation with the cheap ones, so they don’t work well for a painting. What I like about them is that I can get them in a matte finish which works better for scenery painting. I’ll do a matte varnish over the background to take some of the sheen down.
I used real sand from the trails and then added model scenery grasses. For the water I used several layers of Mod Podge. Lastly, I used pastels to weather the sidewalk.
